Toothaches can strike unexpectedly, and if you’ve ever had one, you know how intense the pain can be. Common causes include infections, cavities, gum disease and exposed roots. Natural remedies like rinsing with salt water or using a cold compress may provide temporary relief, but if the pain continues, it’s important to consult a dentist to address the root cause.

Most of the time, you can cure pain at home with homemade remedies. Here are a few natural remedies for toothaches:

Saltwater gargle

A saltwater rinse is a simple yet efficient way to relieve toothache pain and infection. Salt is a natural disinfectant that reduces inflammation, swelling, and the number of bacteria in your mouth. A saltwater gargle would clear the diseased region while also relieving discomfort. It is especially useful when the cause is gum inflammation or infection.

Clove oil

Clove oil is probably one of the most popular and effective toothache cures. Cloves contain eugenol, a natural anaesthetic and antibacterial agent that can relieve pain and inflammation. On the other hand, you can chew a full clove near the painful tooth and expect the same results. Avoid swallowing clove oil because it is quite potent and can cause gum irritation if taken excessively.

Guava leaves

Guava leaves have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making them an effective treatment for healing toothaches. Take fresh guava leaves and chew them. This medication kills the bacteria in the mouth and cures toothaches and gum problems.

Garlic

Garlic, a staple in Indian cooking, is valued not only for its flavour but also for its medicinal properties. Allicin, a key compound in garlic, offers antibacterial and antimicrobial benefits, helping to relieve pain and eliminate harmful bacteria in the mouth.

Turmeric

Turmeric is the most potent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial Ayurvedic herb. It possesses anti-infection qualities, making it the finest toothache treatment. Curcumin is an active substance that reduces inflammation and hence prevents infections. To form a thick paste, mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and a few drops of water. Directly apply the paste to the impacted tooth.

Ice pack

Cold application is a simple, effective, and safe method of anaesthetising the teeth and reducing inflammation. It can numb the nerves that are producing pain and provide short-term relief, particularly if the pain is caused by swelling or tooth injury.
