A woman has shared why you should always update your photo ID… just in case you have a glow-up.
Content creator Alex McCartney took to TikTok to share a cautionary tale about the awkward situations she’s been put in when people think she’s using a fake ID.
In the clip, McCartney, who lives in San Diego, revealed she was recently buying some wine from Trader Joe’s when she was asked to show identification.
According to McCartney, the store worker told her the photo on the ID ‘literally looks like a completely different person,’ asking her a series of questions to prove it was her.
Testing McCartney, she says the person asked for her birthday, address, and card issue date – with the shopper exasperatedly saying she turned 30 on February 24.
The cashier got another person to check out her ID, with McCartney pointing out that she had lost weight since the photo was taken.
McCartney said her ID has also led to some awkward encounters while dating, recounting being asked to show it while at a bar on a date.
The aspiring Pilates teacher was ordering a pitcher of beer with her date, when the bartender was unable to verify that it was her in the picture before going getting a second opinion form another bartender.

After confirming it was her, and giving her ID back, McCartney’s date asked the bartender why they took so long to give it back – with the answer surprising her.
‘Yeah, I’m not gonna lie. She used to be a lot heavier in this photo,’ she recounted the bartender saying.
McCartney briefly explained that she recently lost weight but didn’t think she was unrecognizable.
She said her date then asked to see her photo, where he looked at how much her ID said she weighed, and bluntly asked her: ‘So you used to be fat?’
According to McCartney, this led to a discussion about weight, dating and what society deems attractive and acceptable.
‘I’m not having fun in this conversation, like, this is not an enjoyable topic,’ she lamented.
‘Take this as a reminder you should go get your ID photo changed,’ she urged.
Commenters deemed McCartney’s date a ‘red flag’ – and used shared their own stories of when they weren’t recognized from their ID.

‘The date outed himself with that red flag LOL BYEBYE,’ someone declared.
‘I flew to Germany and my passport photo was me 40lbs heavier and the German customs agent brought four of his coworkers to come look and they were whispering “used to be more rotund,”‘ one user shared.
‘THIS HAPPENED TO ME AT A TJs TOO!!!! The guy was like “lol good try” and tried to keep it!!!!’ exclaimed another.
‘So offensive for people to keep saying your photo is “unrecognizable.”‘ pointed out someone else. ‘Like that would hurt my feelings about my past self.’
