Single women are flocking to find out the scents men love when they’re first dating someone and alternately, the ones they despise.
One confused woman took to a Reddit dating advice page to ask, ‘What scents do guys like?’
She explained that she wears the same ‘cheap’ body mist everyday, but ‘at least three of my guy friends have recently told me they don’t like it because it’s too much and now I’m way over thinking that every guy thinks I stink!’
Both men and women were quick to help her find the fragrances that would lead to her attracting a partner.
‘As a guy I like lavender and vanilla smells. I also like floral scents but you have to be careful because those can be overpowering sometimes,’ one man helpfully answered.
Another man said, ‘in general guys like sweet and floral hence vanilla, lavender, lily of the valley and cinnamon being used since the days of antiquity in perfume, however we are not all the same.’
Many warned her not to go overboard and to invest in more expensive options.
‘I usually won’t put too much on because I believe we shouldn’t hide all of our natural body “scent” for biological reasons,’ one woman explained.

Vanilla was a popular answer, as well as fruity, sweet, and subtle options.
‘Black Opium by YSL is a classic warm vanilla perfume that I swear by, I haven’t met a person yet who just hated it. Safe choice,’ one commenter claimed.
Other popular answers included the fruity Burberry Her and vanilla and amber Dior Hypnotic Poison. Light, fresh scents like Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue and Glossier You also topped the list.
Some self-proclaimed beauty gurus explained the importance of always swapping heavier scents for lighter ones in the warmer months.
There were plenty of satirical answers, including gasoline, gunpowder, and cooked bacon.
Other Reddit users said ask the man what scent he prefers, since all people are different.
One man said that he once asked a stripper what scent she was wearing because he liked it so much during a lap dance – and it was the classic Chance by Chanel ($95).
He’s not alone – last year, some of the most popular perfumes were considered ‘stripper’ scents as they exploded on social media.

The trend first took off on TikTok after content creator Terree Ann Marie revealed her trusty fragrance combination after being a dancer for ten years.
Terree’s go-to scent mixture was $38 Vanilla Skin Body & Hair Fragrance Mist by Phlur layered with $96 Victor & Rolf Flower Bomb.
However, not everyone wants their fragrance to attract men.
In fact, one Reddit commenter wrote, ‘I can care less what a guy wants me to smell like if they don’t know how to wash their behinds.’
In November, TikTok content creator Gabby Jay, 30, shared a viral video where she asked her followers to recommend scents men universally hate.
Women raced to the comments to share the scents men seemed to despise – including patchouli, powdery florals, and cherry.
