Three top tennis stars—Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, 24-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic, and world No. 5 Jack Draper—have withdrawn from the upcoming Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto, all citing injuries.

The tournament, set to begin in a week, will now proceed without several of its biggest names, altering the landscape of the draw ahead of the U.S. Open.

Sinner Sidelined by Elbow Injury

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner announced he will not compete due to an injury to his right elbow. The injury occurred during a fall in his fourth-round match at Wimbledon, where he eventually captured his first title at the All England Club and fourth Grand Slam overall.

Sinner, who claimed his maiden Masters 1000 title in Toronto in 2023, expressed disappointment over missing the event.

“Winning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover,” Sinner said.

Djokovic Out with Groin Issue

Novak Djokovic, a four-time champion in Toronto, also pulled out, citing a groin injury. The Serbian star was defeated by Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals earlier this month.

His absence removes a major contender from the field as he focuses on recovery ahead of the U.S. Open.

Draper Withdraws from Summer Hard-Court Events

British No. 1 Jack Draper has withdrawn from both the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters tournaments due to a left arm issue. As a result, he will miss all hard-court tune-up events leading into the U.S. Open, which begins August 24.

“After Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season,” Draper shared on social media. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati … See you in NYC!”
