With the onset of the rainy season, sightings of snakes become more common. As their natural habitats flood, snakes often move towards human settlements in search of dry and safe shelter. This can be dangerous, as accidental encounters inside homes or gardens may lead to panic, and in rare cases, even snake bites.
The fear intensifies when there are children or pets in the house. However, there are simple, natural ways to protect your home.
One such remedy is the Dhanantar plant, known for its strong medicinal properties and pungent smell. This smell is highly unpleasant to snakes and other venomous creatures, making it an effective natural repellent. The plant is commonly found in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, and can be easily grown at home.
Collector Raikwar, a resident of Mankari village in Maharajpur, shared that Dhanantar has been grown in his nursery and home for many years. He says even one plant is enough to keep snakes away, and it can be planted in a pot in the courtyard or on the rooftop.
Planting it is simple, take a cutting, bury it about three inches deep, and apply cow dung to help it root and grow faster. The plant thrives with minimal care and spreads a smell that snakes dislike.
So, if you’re worried about snake intrusions this monsoon, consider growing a Dhanantar plant. It’s a safe, low-cost way to protect your family and avoid any unexpected visits from unwanted reptilian guests.
