Even as Shashi Tharoor enjoys fame on the Internet with his head-scratcher English words, his situation within the Congress is full of struggle. While Rahul Gandhi has declined to address any of his grievances or suggestions, latest reports state that resistance against Tharoor has grown stronger among party leaders in Kerala.
A report in Times of India quoted sources as saying that the AICC is no longer inclined to take a lenient approach with Tharoor.
According to the report, Tharoor had asked Rahul to specify the role he is to play in the party. During their discussion in Delhi a couple of days ago, Tharoor expressed deep dissatisfaction over being sidelined within the party. It is learnt that he is unhappy with the discussion as Rahul Gandhi was not ready to make a commitment.
The report stated that the Congress was upset with Tharoor for deviating from the party’s stance on issues like the Prime Minister’s visit to the US and his meeting with US President Donald Trump.
It is learnt that Tharoor is not ready to concede to the party line since he feels that he is not getting due recognition. During his meeting with Rahul, Tharoor is learnt to have expressed his deep dissatisfaction over the way he was removed from the charges of All India Professional Congress, which he had formed, TOI mentioned.
Amid the rumours of being snubbed, Shashi Tharoor shared a cryptic post on X.
Meanwhile, a report in The New Indian Express stated that a majority of senior Congress leaders are unhappy with the prominence accorded to Tharoor by the national leadership. They say the party has given the four-time MP enough leeway.
“Tharoor hasn’t corrected his position even after Rahul Gandhi spoke to him,” a senior Congress leader was quoted by TNIE.
Shashi Tharoor’s recent article in which he praised the industrial growth under LDF govt had created unrest within the party in Kerala.
There is also criticism about Tharoor’s lack of participation in discussions at party forums. “He is a member of the political affairs committee. But he is playing the role of a guest artist. There are criticisms from ordinary workers about his MP office. He is unavailable to ordinary people,” another senior leader was quoted
Excluding state Congress president K Sudhakaran, most other sections in the party are unhappy with Tharoor, TNIE stated.
