Trincao opened up about the benefits of having one of the two football icons in a team as the Sporting CP explained how Messi and Ronaldo inspire their teammates both on and off the pitch.

A few players have had the privilege to play alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Francisco Trincao is one of those who have shared the dressing room with both the legendary footballers. The 25-year-old Portuguese international has represented his country under the captaincy of Ronaldo. He played with Messi at Barcelona in the 2020-21 season. In a recent interview, Trincao opened up about the benefits of having one of the two football icons in a team. The wing forward, who currently plies his trade at Sporting CP, explained how Messi and Ronaldo inspire their teammates both on and off the pitch.
“On the pitch, they are one more to help the team, because they are players who try to help others and the team. This is more noticeable off the pitch, in the training camps for example, because there are always people behind them,” Trincao revealed to Ojogo.pt, as per Sportskeeda.
“And in the dressing room, where it even seems that they are not real, they say things that we are not used to and tell stories. It ends up being funnier inside the dressing room than on the pitch,” he added.
Trincao admitted that playing alongside Messi and Ronaldo would remain one of his biggest flexes for the rest of his life. “It will be something I can tell my children and my family. I’m privileged for that in terms of football, but I’m also privileged for many other things and to have the family I have and the life I have,” he said.
Despite sharing the same nationality with Ronaldo, Trincao has made more appearances alongside Messi. The duo shared the pitch 34 times and contributed to three goals during their time at Barcelona. After spending one season at the Catalan club, Trincao was loaned out to the Premier League side, Wolves.
At the same time, Messi also parted ways with his childhood club and joined Paris Saint-Germain. The Argentine superstar is currently in the United States, playing for the Major League Soccer club Inter Miami.
Trincao, on the other hand, has so far played seven international matches with Ronaldo as part of the Portugal team. Like Messi, the former Real Madrid star has also turned his back on European club football. He remains contracted with Saudi club Al Nassr.
