Chaos has erupted in South Korea after the country’s President Yoon Suk Yeol declared emergency martial law sparking huge protests outside Parliament.
In a surprise late night television address, President Yoon says the measure is necessary to protect the country from North Korea ‘s communist forces and eliminate anti-state elements.
But his call sparked huge clashes outside the National Assembly which was sealed as helicopters landed on the roof, as army chief General Park An-su took charge as martial law commander and immediately issued a decree banning ‘all political activities’
Hundreds of protesters gathered outside parliament demanding to be let inside as police guarded the building and special forces attempted to enter.
