‘Stood Like A Wall’: How India’s Akash-led ‘Layered’ Defence System ‘Thwarted’ Pakistan’s Missiles

Amid the heightened India-Pakistan hostilities, air defence systems have played a key role in protecting New Delhi’s airspace. These systems have been crucial in detecting, tracking, and neutralising aerial threats like aircraft, drones and missiles, an Indian army official said on May 12.Praising the country’s “battle-proven” air defence systems, India’s Air Vice Marshal said they “stood like a wall”, and took Pakistani threats “head on.” The Indian military also highlighted the “stellar performance” of the indigenous Akash air defence missile system. The air defence system was activated on May 8, when Pakistan reportedly launched over 300 precision strike missiles towards India.
