Former West Indies spinner Sunil Narine entered his name in the history books on Thursday (April 3) by becoming the first player in the world to take 200 wickets for one Indian Premier League (IPL) team. The 36-year-old cricketer took his tally of wickets to 200 for Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday by taking Kamindu Mendis’ wicket during the IPL 2025 match played between KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Sri Lankan batter was caught by substitute fielder Anukul Roy on the third ball of the 10th over of the SRH’s innings in the 201-run chase.
Narine, who is KKR’s most capped in IPL history, has picked up 182 wickets in 180 IPL matches for the Kolkata-based franchise, and in nine Champions League Twenty20 matches for the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned team, he dismissed 18 batters.
In the list of bowlers who have picked up most wickets for one IPL team, Narine is followed by Lasith Malinga. During his playing days, Malinga picked up 195 wickets for the Mumbai Indians. He dismissed 170 batters in 122 IPL matches and picked 25 wickets in 17 Champions League Twenty20 matches.
Only one bowler has picked up more wickets in T20s for one team than Narine. The record of taking most wickets for one team in T20s is held by former England all-rounder Samit Patel. Samit has played 233 T20 matches in the Vitality Blast for Nottinghamshire and picked up 208 wickets.
