Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav has created history after his knock against the Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.
The Indian T20 skipper registered a score of over 25 runs for the 14th consecutive time, now making it the new world record for the most 25+ scores in T20s. The record was previously held by South Africa’s Temba Bavuma.
Bavuma, who is set to lead South Africa for the World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s previously held the record after registering scores of 52* (37), 104* (63), 49 (43), 27* (23), 38 (15), 33 (24), 62 (42), 27 (31), 35 (30), 37 (30), 43 (27), 31 (29), and 49 (24) in 13 T20 matches played in 2019 and 2020.
Sky has been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians to get back in the playoff stages after their disappointing season in the previous year. He has scored over 500 runs and remains in the orange cap race as well. MI will fancy their chances of getting a big score on the board with their star batter looking in good touch, and they are remaining touching distance of a top-two finish.
He has been outstanding throughout the IPL season and registered scores of 29, 48, 27*, 67, 28, 40, 26, 68*, 40*, 54, 48*, 35, 73* and 30* respectively and seems to be finding his form at the right time as his knock against LSG helped them get the win, thanks to his knock of 73 which is his highest-score of the season so far. With his form, the side have also gone on to take a six-game winning streak to get them into the top-four race and then secure qualification for the next stage of the tournament as well.
The winner of the PBKS vs MI match will guarantee their spot in the top two. So there is a lot to play for as a top-two finish in the league stages will give the two teams a chance at Qualifier 1, where winning this would give them a direct entry to the final.
With MI already in the playoffs, the Hardik Pandya-led side will definitely be fancying their chances to get their sixth title, considering their rich history. But they will have a tough task of going past the likes of Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, who have been performing brilliantly as well.
