India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is leading Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (March 23), joined legendary Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard in an elite list of batters. The 34-year-old right-handed batter scored 29 runs from 26 balls, and during the process, he became the third player in IPL history after Rohit and Pollard to score 3000 runs for the Mumbai-based franchise.

Surya, who was retained for Rs 16.35 crore by MI ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, needed 14 runs on Sunday to achieve the feat, and he achieved the objective by hitting Khaleel Ahmed for a six on the third ball of the sixth over of the match.
Suryakumar, who made 29 runs with the help of two fours and one six on Sunday, has 3015 runs to his name in 97 IPL matches played so far for Mumbai Indians.

Rohit, who failed to open his account on Sunday despite facing four balls, is the all-time leading run scorer in IPL for Mumbai Indians. In 213 matches for the five-time champions, Rohit has amassed a total of 5458 runs. He is followed by Pollard, who finished his IPL career with 3412 runs in 189 matches.
Surya’s record in IPL
In the IPL, apart from the Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar has also played for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was part of the Gautam Gambhir-led side in IPL from 2014 to 2017 and, in 54 matches, scored 608 runs. He was the member of the KKR team that won the IPL title in the 2014 season by getting the better of Punjab Kings in the final.
Surya made his IPL debut for MI in the 2012 season but failed to open his account despite facing four balls. He was re-signed by the Mumbai-based franchise in the IPL 2018 mega auction and has been with the franchise since then. He scored 512 runs in the 2018 season for MI and followed it up with 424 runs in IPL 2019, 480 runs in IPL 2020, 317 runs in IPL 2021, 303 runs in IPL 2022, 605 runs in IPL 2023 and 345 runs in IPL 2024.
