Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla penned a one-year contract extension with boyhood club Real Oviedo after helping them to promotion to La Liga for the first time in over two decades.
The new contract will tie the 40-year-old fan favourite to the club at least until the end of the 2026 season.

“With this renewal, Santi Cazorla, a symbol and emblem of Oviedo, proves that dreams, when pursued with the heart, come true,” the club statement read.
“Real Oviedo have secured the leadership of a footballer who embodies the club’s values like few others, both on and off the field,” the club added.

The midfielder, who began his youth career with Covadonga, came through the Real Oviedo system befoe making his first senior appearance for Villareal’s B side before making the main unit. He then spent a year at Recreativo Huelva before a four-year stint at Villareal. He played at Malaga in the 2011-12 season before his switch to Arsenal, where he remained until the year 2018. Cazorla went back to Estadi La Ceramica with Villareal for a couple of years before plying his trade at Qatari side Al Sadd for three years. He comepleted am emotional homecoming as he penned for Oviedo in 2023 and helped them rise through the Spanish football-system, taking them to the top-flight for the first time since 2001.
