After being unsold in the recently concluded Indian Premier League mega auction for the 2025 season, Prithvi Shaw has been reportedly dealt with yet another blow as reports suggest that he has not been picked for Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

While the news is yet to be confirmed, Shaw has already reacted to the news with a rant on his official Instagram where he vented out his frustrations after not being picked.

“Tell me, God, what more do I have to see…if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough…but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully, people believe in me still… cause I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram,” Shaw wrote on his Instagram story.

This comes after the Mumbai skipper, Shreyas Iyer delivered harsh criticism of Shaw’s work ethic after winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024.

During his younger years, many compared Shaw’s talents to that of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, believing him to be the next big talent from Mumbai. But since being dropped from the Test team for his poor returns, his career has gone on a downward trajectory with many seeing him as a failed talent.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is set to begin on December 21. Mumbai is part of Group C along with the likes of Arunachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Karnataka, Nagaland, Punjab, Puducherry and Saurashtra.

Shaw’s exclusion from the domestic 50-over side will be a major blow in his career and it remains to be seen if Shaw would be able to muster up the courage and determination to force a comeback to his state team. The onus remains with the player to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure that he can once again show why his talents are unmatched.

Iyer had mentioned that his talent is limitless but Shaw would have to figure out his shortcomings by himself before other talents take his spot away for good. Whether he can do this, is one for the future as Shaw still has time to mount a comeback, being just 25 years old.
