Tesla Launches In India: Tesla has officially marked its entry into the Indian market with the launch of its first showroom in Mumbai. Up next: Delhi’s Aerocity.

While Mumbai hosted the inaugural ribbon-cutting, preparations were already underway for Tesla’s second Indian outlet. Industry sources confirm the company has secured a 4,000-square-foot space in Aerocity — a premium commercial hub near IGI Airport. The showroom will be located within the Worldmark complex, owned by Brookfield Asset Management.

According to reports, Tesla concluded a rental agreement of Rs 25 lakh per month for its showroom in Delhi’s aerocity, a location akin to its proximity to global hotel chains, top companies and high-end retail.

According to NDTV report, the showroom in Delhi is expected to launch later this month.

These deals are intended for showrooms rather than service centres, a source told Reuters, explaining that Tesla’s initial rollout in India will concentrate on brand-building and gauging demand rather than achieving full operational scale.

Maharashtra CM Inaugurates Mumbai Showroom

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the inauguration and expressed hope about Tesla’s future plans for electric vehicle manufacturing and Research and Development in India.

“We hope that Tesla will also plan a manufacturing plant and a Research and Development unit in India as well,” said Fadnavis during his address at the launch event.

Despite ongoing speculation about Tesla’s long-term plans in India, the company has not indicated any intent to manufacture vehicles locally at this time.

The company has also revealed the prices for its electric vehicles, with the Model Y’s on-road price listed at ₹61 lakh. The rear-wheel drive version is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh.

Last Friday, Tesla had hinted at the launch through a post on its India-focused X account, stating “Coming soon,” along with a graphic suggesting its planned debut in July 2025.

India’s recently announced EV policy, which includes reduced import duties and incentives for global electric vehicle manufacturers, may further support Tesla as it entered the market.
