Former Argentina footballer Carlos Tevez played with some of the sport’s greatest-ever players during his career. Tevez worked alongside legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero. Naming one among them as his greatest teammate would be an extremely difficult task then.

But Tevez bravely confronted the challenge, speaking of the finest footballer he shared the field with. While it may be assumed that the Argentine would name one of Real Madrid and Barcelona legends, respectively, Ronaldo and Messi, Tevez surprised football fans by taking a different option.

Ronaldo and Messi are hailed as the two greatest footballers of all time, but for Tevez, the finest teammate he ever played with remains England and Manchester United great Wayne Rooney. Rooney is Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer. The Englishman shared the field with Tevez between 2007 and 2009. Rooney and Tevez won multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy together, among other silverware.

While Tevez had a brief two-year spell working alongside him, Rooney left a lasting impact on the Argentine’s mind.During an interview he made after leaving United in 2009 for the club’s local rivals, Manchester City, Tevezspoke in great regard forhis ex-teammate, hailing him as a robust striker.

‘I’ve had the honour of playing with some great players. At United, I had Cristiano in my team, and obviously, I have Messi in the national team. At Boca Juniors, I had striker Martin Palermo as a teammate – he was very impressive. He was the one who put two goals past Real Madrid in Japan. But the one I like the most is Rooney. He has everything. He’s very complete,’ Tevez was quoted by the Mirror.

‘Plus, we share the same humble origins. Although the humbleness he experienced growing up in Liverpool was obviously a bit more bearable than Fuerte Apache in Argentina, where I grew up.’

Emerging on the football scene with Everton as a promising teenager, Rooney went on to become a Manchester United legend. He remains one of the Premier League’s highest-ever goal scorers and won the championship five times. He was also England’s leading goalscorer until surpassed by Harry Kane.
