Urmil’s The Silent Fold celebrates quiet strength through sculpted silhouettes, layered textures, and minimalist precision.

The Silent Fold by Urmil reimagines modern elegance through origami-inspired folds, tactile layers, and architectural grace.

There is a quiet revolution happening in Indian fashion, one that doesn’t demand attention with noise, but rather draws you in with depth, restraint, and meaning. The Silent Fold, the latest collection by Urmil, is a reflection of that movement. Designed by Ritika and Prerna, this collection steps away from ornamental excess and into a space where every pleat, every texture, and every silhouette is intentional.

Rooted in the ancient art of origami, The Silent Fold celebrates the power of precision and the poetry of form. The collection, which features sculpted jackets, asymmetrical capes, and pleated skirts, is created in a subdued monochromatic palette allowing the craftsmanship to take centre stage. But more than just a visual aesthetic, The Silent Fold is a philosophy, one that honours the modern woman who finds power in presence and elegance in quietude.

“The Silent Fold is rooted in the emotion of quiet strength and introspective power,” the designers share. “We wanted to explore how something as gentle as a fold can hold space, structure, and story. For today’s modern woman, who is both strong and subtle, it’s a celebration of duality. The collection mirrors her: composed yet experimental, powerful yet poetic.”

Indeed, duality lies at the heart of The Silent Fold. The collection pushes boundaries by holding back allowing technique and construction to shine without being overpowered by embellishment or colour. The decision to work with a pared-down, tonal palette is deliberate.

“The monochromatic palette was a conscious decision to let form, construction, and texture take center stage,” they explain. “Without the distraction of colour, every fold, pleat, and architectural detail becomes more pronounced. Inspired by origami, the restrained palette brings focus to the interplay between light and shadow, highlighting the quiet drama of sculpted silhouettes.”

This is also a clear evolution in Urmil’s design language. Known for their emotive, tactile storytelling, Ritika and Prerna have often used embellishment and artisanal detailing as a narrative tool. But here, the storytelling is more internal, distilled into technique and texture.

“This collection represents a more meditative, refined approach to storytelling,” they say. “While our past collections explored emotion through embellishment and form, The Silent Fold distills that expression into craftsmanship and subtlety. It deepens our exploration of surface manipulation, architectural silhouettes, and conceptual detailing — marking a shift towards minimalism with meaning.”

At the heart of this minimalism is a rich repertoire of techniques: layered sheers, interlaced fabrics, and complex folds that create sculptural drama without visual clutter. The construction process is just as thoughtful as the garments themselves.

“We worked extensively with fabric manipulation techniques — layering sheer and opaque textures, hand-pleating, folding, and interlacing fabrics to create depth without weight,” they reveal. “Many pieces involved draped construction combined with structured tailoring, allowing the garment to evolve with the body while still holding its architectural integrity.”

What also stands out in The Silent Fold is the innovative use of 3D motifs, cords, and appliqué, all employed not for ornamentation, but to further the collection’s quiet tactile vocabulary.

“Each element was treated like a sculptural detail,” say the designers. “We used cords to build linear textures and volume, 3D motifs to interrupt flat surfaces with a sense of movement, and appliqué to layer dimension onto fabric like quiet brushstrokes. Together, they form a tactile language, one that speaks to the collection’s deeper narrative of restraint, rhythm, and detail.”

With The Silent Fold, Urmil offers a new kind of statement dressing, one that doesn’t shout, but speaks clearly. One that doesn’t overwhelm, but holds presence. It’s a rare kind of elegance — precise yet poetic, grounded yet elevated that truly resonates with a woman who knows her strength doesn’t lie in spectacle, but in subtlety.
