Famously progressive Democrat congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raised eyebrows by removing her pronouns from her X account. Â
The move from Squad lawmaker, 35, seen as one of the most liberal members of Congress, was seen by some as a sign that the cultural tide is turning following Donald Trump’s election win.Â
Journalist Benjamin Ryan said records showed AOC removed her ‘she/her’ pronouns sometime between August 3, 2023, and May 28, 2024.Â
Critics branded her a hypocrite, and noted that just two years ago AOC apologized to followers for not having pronouns in her Instagram bio, claiming they ‘fell off’ and she didn’t realize.Â
Eagle-eyed conservatives have mocked New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after she quietly removed her pronouns from her X account
The New York lawmaker removed ‘she/her’ from her bio, and others noticed she also changed her moniker from the genderless ‘Representative’ to ‘Congresswoman’Â
Conservatives were quick to mock AOC after it was realized that she had removed the pronouns from her account bio. Some also noted that she changed her moniker from the genderless ‘Representative’ to ‘Congresswoman’ as she removed her pronouns.Â
Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has frequently clashed with AOC in Congress, demanded that she ‘needs to explain herself.’Â
‘After shoving gender lies and insane ideology down people’s throats for years, why has she removed her pronouns?’ Greene tweeted.Â
Conservative commentator Paul Szypula told his 250,000 followers that he believes she was pandering to Hispanic voters after the voter bloc swung dramatically to Donald Trump in the election.Â
‘If you’re wondering why AOC ditched her pronouns in her bio, it might have something to do with the massive exodus from the Democrat Party by Hispanic voters,’ he argued.Â
‘Many have conservative values and aren’t thrilled with gender ideology. They care about low prices and strong borders.’Â
Others drew a link between her removal of pronouns and Democrats’ attempts to coin the phrase ‘Latinx’ – a gender-neutral alternative to Latino and Latina – which many Hispanic voters said they found offensive in recent years.Â
‘This election killed the woke era,’ another added. Â
It comes days after AOC was slammed by Republicans for her first public response to Trump’s win, as she was criticized for ‘fearmongering.’Â
The New York lawmaker warned her followers that he United States may be entering an era of ‘fascism and authoritarianism’ under Trump.Â
‘We find ourselves I believe in a time where there are lets say peers in history of massive movements of people that mobilize to protect one another in times of fascism and authoritarianism,’ AOC said.Â
‘And this is the era that we are poised to enter.’Â
Ocasio-Cortez has long been a supporter of transgender rights, including so-called gender-affirming care for children, and transgender girls competing in female sports.
But the Democrats more extreme stances were blamed as a massive vote loser for Kamala Harris in the recent election.
An advert showing her supporting taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries for illegal migrant prisoners was played on repeat by Team Trump.
Many Dems’ insistence that opposing hormones for trans children or banning trans girls from joining female sports teams was transphobic further alienated centrists.
Immigration and inflation were the issues that ultimately swung the election for Donald Trump, but the Dems’ unpopular trans stance has now forced a reckoning within the party. Â
‘Donald Trump has talked about turning the military on U.S. citizens that he deems his domestic political enemies. Authoritarians and people that he associates closely with and strongmen aboard in regimes like that, it’s not uncommon to jail political dissidents or legislative opponents,’ the congresswoman said.
‘This is the world that we very realistically may be entering.’Â
