Established in 1939, this restaurant in Kozhikode has secured the fifth spot on Taste Atlas’ list of 100 most iconic restaurants in the world. Here’s what you should order from their menu.

Taste Atlas, one of the most popular online experiential travel guides, has released its list of the 100 most iconic restaurants in the world. The list features some of the most popular eateries from across the world. One Indian restaurant has made it to the top five and here’s all that you need to know about it.

Paragon Restaurant in Kozhikode secured fifth place in Taste Atlas’ 100 Most Iconic Restaurants In The World list. The restaurant was established in 1939 and it is immensely popular for its biryani. On a festive day, the restaurant reportedly sells 700 to 1000 kilograms of biryani. Known for its Malabar cuisine, it has stood the test of time and it continues to be one of the most loved spots in the city.

Apart from Paragon Restaurant, here are the other restaurants that made it to the Taste Atlas’ list. Peter Cat, known for its chelow kebab stood at the seventh position. This was followed by Amrik Sukhdev in Murthal which is known for its delectable aloo paratha in the 13th position. This was followed by Karim’s New Delhi in the 59th position. After which the list also featured Central Tiffin Room in Bengaluru in the 69th position, Gulati’s Delhi in the 77th position, and Ram Ashraya in Mumbai in the 78th position.

In an earlier interview with The Hindu, Sumesh Govind, managing director of Paragon Group said, “The restaurant has been called legendary and the biryani, iconic. However, I would like to add four other items to our list of bests — the fish curry made in coconut gravy, tea, parotta, and sambar.”

Other popular dishes from the restaurant include- chicken stew, tender coconut pudding, appam and stew/curry combination, Chicken 65, and a variety of sea seafood such as fish tawa fry and squid fry.
