Brands are finally trying new ways to make webcams better on a laptop
Windows laptops have improved on their webcams but surely more can be done to make them easier and smarter to use?
What if we tell you that you can detach a webcam on a laptop and store it when you don’t need it? That’s what Honor is bringing to the market with its new Windows laptop model that not only lets you detach the webcam but also avoids the screen having an ugly notch to house the sensor. The brand has also made a smart move letting you store the webcam near the ports on the side, so that you don’t misplace it.
Detachable Webcam For Laptops: Does It Work?
Apple has adopted the notch to pack the cameras on the new MacBooks, while others offer a shutter button to keep the camera safe and give you a privacy feature. The webcam can be turned over to let you take a photo or scan a QR code too.
Honor showcased this unique camera tech at the IFA 2024 earlier this year in Berlin, and many people were intrigued to see how the webcam sticks at the top and how durable it is to keep the user comfortable with that mechanism in play.
PCs are evolving and the incoming era of AI PCs are going to focus more on the segment. But it is high time that brands give equal attention to features like webcam and Honor has probably got a smart idea out there which does make a lot of sense.
Having said that, people are clumsy, and it won’t be long before we see tutorials on how to find the lost webcam of your laptop. So, Honor should ideally bring a Find My-like network into the ecosystem, and give buyers other after-sale options. As for the actual product, the Honor MagicBook Art 14 is a Windows laptop, powered by Intel Core Ultra 5 and 7 processor with up to 32GB RAM and features a 14.6-inch OLED display.
