Over 13,000 federal employees reportedly received an abusive email concerning President Trump, after officials rolled out a new broadcast system.
All of those currently employed with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) received the email with the subject header ‘Resign’, according to Mediaite.
The message said: ‘Aren’t you tired of working for a complete c***?’, and was followed up by a message from senior staff who apologized.
NOAA Deputy Director of Communications Scott Smullen reportedly told staff in a memo: ‘I’m sorry this happened to us. I will report it.’
The Trump administration launched a new system that allows all 2.3 million federal employees to be emailed from a single address.
It was rolled out last week by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and has already been hit with a lawsuit brought by two federal employees alleging that the system raises security concerns.
The complaint cites concerns about the possibility of it being hacked, and the privacy of workers.
Lawyer Kel McClanahan, who is representing the two, hopes to extend the lawsuit to be a class action.
The message said: ‘Aren’t you tired of working for a complete c***?’, and was followed up by a message from senior staff who apologized.
In a statement, McClanahan said: ‘Plugging in a new email server for the sole purpose of sending messages directly to every federal employee is an invitation to be hacked, and every employee out there needs to know how much of their data is at risk.’
He called for it to be shut down until the OPM ‘treats this data with the security it warrants’.
The Trump administration started sending out emails to thousands of workers on Tuesday night offering them a ‘buyout’ to voluntarily leave their positions but remain on the payroll for months.
The administration has called for federal workers to return to the office and plans to offer the buyouts to up to two million workers who do not want to.
The email was linked to President Donald Trump’s executive order demanding the office return.
It said the last date to accept the offer is February 6, and employees could simply send an email from their government account with the word ‘resign’ in the subject line.
An Office of Personnel Management spokesperson said employees who accept the terms were being offered the chance to go on administrative leave at full pay through September 30.

But many government workers appear ready to reject the offer and are vowing to continue working in protest.
Trump on Wednesday claimed federal employees who don’t show up for work at offices next month will be fired.
‘We have informed the federal workforce that if they’re working for the federal government, they must show up to the office on time and on schedule,’ he said at a White House event.
‘If they don’t agree by February 6 to show up back to work in their office, they will be terminated,’ he added.
Trump predicted a ‘very substantial number of people will not show up to work’ and that would make the government ‘smaller and more efficient.’
