Tia Mowry is now clarifying her recent remarks about not being as ‘close’ to her twin sister Tamera Mowry after it sparked concern about their relationship.
The actress, 46, told Us Weekly on Tuesday that she was referring to how her and Tamera’s bond has changed due to the physical distance between them.
Tia lives in Los Angeles while Tamera has since moved to Napa, California with her husband Adam Housley and their two kids.
‘You could hear it from me, and this is basically what I was insinuating: I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them,’ Tia explained.
‘We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives. That is what that was all about.’

She continued: ‘In these transitions in life, sometimes you just want a hug and you just want someone to be as accessible as they used to be, and that is not the case. It’s called life.’
Tia stressed how much she ‘loves’ her sister and their ‘beautiful bond.’
‘I love my sister very much. She loves me very much. We have a closeness and a beautiful connection. But that’s what that was all about. It’s just how life unfolds, and it happens with many families,’ she explained.
As to how she and Tamera felt about the reaction to her comments, Tia admitted it was ‘not surprising’ and that they’re used to being ‘taken out of context.’
‘When you’ve been in this industry for over 30 years, things are always taken out of context and it is what it is.
‘The only thing that I can do is control my behaviors and be the best person that I could possibly be, and that’s what both of us are,’ she said.
‘We are incredible, inspiring examples, and we have been that all our lives. So, why change that now?’
Her initial remarks were made in the latest teaser trailer for her forthcoming reality TV series My Next Act, which delves into her post-divorce struggle after leaving ex-husband Cory Hardrict.
After dropping her six-year-old daughter Cairo off to spend time with her dad, she broke down in tears.
‘Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce,’ she shared in an interview confessional.
‘It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could pick up the phone and call her. But that’s just not where we are right now.’

In the clip, the star, who rose to fame in the late 90s alongside Tamera on their sitcom Sister Sister, did not explain what had driven a wedge between her and her identical sibling.
Elsewhere in the snippet for her show, which premieres October 4 on We TV, Tia talked about her and ex Cory’s first red carpet run-in after their divorce.
While attending the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Awards event this past March, the two awkwardly came face-to-face.
Footage from the scene shows the former spouses briefly hesitate as they didn’t know whether to hug or shake hands.
Tia, who in addition to Cairo also shares 13-year-old son Cree with her ex, called the ordeal ‘exhausting.’
‘It was blown out of proportion and we actually went viral,’ she said about the brief reunion.
‘People are wanting to know what happened and why it happened so much that they are trying to create narratives and stories in their own head and then putting it out there,’ she said about fans’ speculation.
The mother-of-two said the chatter around her divorce made her ‘mentally ill.’
Following her October 2022 divorce filing, the new show will see Mowry get back in the dating pool.

The two tied the knot in 2011 and they share son Aden, 11, and daughter Ariah, nine.
To mark her children’s first day of school earlier this month, the proud mom posted a photo of them on Instagram.
In a caption to her nearly 12 million followers, Tamera wrote: ‘First day of school vibes! ✨ Aden is off to 6th grade and Ariah is starting 4th grade—where does the time go? I’m so full of joy, but wow, they’re growing up so fast. Who else gets all the feels this time of year?’
