Donald Trump signed an executive order granting extension to TikTok.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order granting Chinese tech giant ByteDance an additional 90 days to sell TikTok to an American owner, extending the deadline to September 17, 2025. The move marks the third such extension for the app.

“I’ve just signed the Executive Order extending the Deadline for the TikTok closing for 90 days (September 17, 2025). Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.

Earlier the US President said he believed Chinese President Xi Jinping would be open to approving a deal that allows the short-form video app to continue operating in the United States.

“I think he’ll go along with it,” Donald Trump said, suggesting a final agreement may require sign-off from Beijing, where TikTok’s parent company ByteDance is headquartered.

What White House Has Said On TikTok Ban?

The White House emphasized that the extension is aimed at avoiding service disruption for TikTok’s roughly 170 million US users. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “President Trump does not want TikTok to go dark. This extension will last 90 days, which the administration will spend working to ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.”

Donald Trump vs TikTok

TikTok has consistently denied posing any security risk to the United States, asserting that American user data is not stored in China. After the initial ban, Donald Trump issued a 75-day deadline for TikTok’s parent company ByteDance to find an American buyer, which expired on April 5. In the days leading up to the deadline, several suitors emerged including Amazon, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, AI startup Perplexity AI and Steven Mnuchin. As no deal was finalized, Donald Trump granted another 90-day extension.
