President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that his former White House adviser Sebastian Gorka will join his incoming administration.

Trump, 78, revealed in a post on Truth Social that Gorka will take on the role of deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism.

“Since 2015, Dr. Gorka has been a tireless advocate for the America First Agenda and the MAGA Movement. Dr. Gorka is a legal immigrant to the United States, with more than 30 years of National Security experience,” Trump wrote.

Gorka, 54, was born in London to parents who had immigrated from Hungary. He spent a significant part of his life in Hungary between 1992 and 2008 before becoming a naturalised US citizen in 2012.

He worked as a White House strategist during Trump’s first term but was removed from his position in August 2017, only seven months after Inauguration Day.

The outspoken conservative claimed that his departure was due to opposition from those who were against Trump’s “MAGA agenda”.

Following his exit from the White House, Gorka remained a vocal supporter of Trump, using his radio show, podcast and cable news appearances to back him.

In 2022, he took legal action against the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot after the committee sought his phone records.

Gorka, who acknowledged being present for Trump’s speech at the Ellipse on the day of the riot, denounced the committee’s subpoena as nothing more than a “partisan fishing expedition”.

In his recent social media posts, Gorka has strongly criticized the “deep state,” alleging that unelected bureaucrats tried to undermine Trump’s first term. He has also voiced concerns over the possibility of Trump choosing former congressman and FBI agent Mike Rogers to lead the bureau.
