Ally McCoist told fellow TNT Sports pundit Joleon Lescott to ‘calm down’ after the former Manchester City star claimed Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson was lucky not to be sent off during Saturday’s game at the City Ground.

Anderson survived a first-half VAR review for a possible red card after catching Man City star Foden with his left foot after making contact with the ball.

The VAR review did not result in a punishment but, speaking at half-time, Lescott suggested that the ex-Newcastle man was perhaps lucky to still be on the pitch.

Lescott said: ‘Initially, I thought it was just a block tackle. The impact from that would have hurt Phil. But having seen this image, I’m a bit more sceptical in his intent. I know it was deemed a natural [action but]…

TNT Sports presenter Lynsey Hipgrave then asked Lescott: ‘They said it was a normal kicking action. Tell us why you think it’s not.’

Lescott replied: ‘I don’t think that. Because the trajectory of the ball was across the floor. So for me, the fact that his leg is raised and risen into the leg of Phil Foden would mean that’s not as normal as it may appear.’

However, moments later, former Rangers and Scotland striker McCoist responded: ‘Somebody needs to get Joleon a cup of tea, sit him down and just calm him down.

‘Yes, he does follow through. There’s a little bit of a followthrough, there’s no doubt about it. I think he’s lucky not to hurt himself, I genuinely do.

‘I know where Joleon is coming from, but I don’t think it is anything more than was required.’
