Singer Tony Kakkar, who made his Bollywood debut in 2012 with the song Good Boys Bad Boys from Mr Bhatti on Chutti, has kept a low profile when it comes to television reality shows. Meanwhile, his sister and music director, Neha Kakkar, has been a prominent judge on several popular shows like Indian Idol (Seasons 10-13), Superstar Singer Season 3 and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2017. In a recent interview, Tony opened up about the reasons behind his decision to stay away from television shows entirely.

In a conversation with ETimes, Tony Kakkar was asked why he has been avoiding television shows, unlike his sister, Neha Kakka. In reply, the Afghani Afeem Hai singer admitted that his absence was due to the lack of offers. He believes that the decision-makers of the shows don’t see the depth in him. “The decision makers don’t see depth in me. I’m a deep person; I have deep thoughts. I am much more than Coca Cola Tu. They don’t know, and don’t understand. They don’t know what I can offer to them. So that’s why they have not offered me,” Tony said.

Nonetheless, Tony is open to the idea of being part of a television reality show and clarified if people not being able to find the depth in him upsets the singer. “I’ll definitely take (a show if offered), and I have no reservations about it. So maybe they don’t think I am right now capable enough to do a show and run on my shoulders, possibly. They are also right and I do not blame them,” he said, adding, “I love my music and I take pride in my work. I realise that this is how the world works.”

Kakkar, who is constantly making significant growth in his career, continued, “I am now getting sorted with the given arrangements, and I am more accepting.” He, however, mentioned that such things would have affected him early in his career but now he clearly knows his target audience. He mentioned, “14-16 year old are my target audience and they won’t listen to deep songs.”

In line with this, Kakkar was further asked about the online backlash he garners for his cringe pop songs. Defending himself in this matter, the Lollipop artist mentioned that if other singers like Badshah, Honey Singh, Sachin-Jigar and others stop making these songs, he will also do the same and focus on his hidden gems. However, if things happen otherwise, he said, “Then I cannot stop. I cannot be biased towards any particular genre.”

Kakkar revealed that when Coca-Cola was released, the word “cringe” was not even introduced. However, he explains, “Maybe if it was released today, it would be called cringe. But I have survived for over 10 years now. I am happy in my own skin, and love it the way things are unfolding.” Kakkar is extremely happy about the positive response he got for his Afghani Afeemi. Talking about the same, he shared, “It was a great experience shooting it.”

Coming to his personal side, Kakkar claimed to be single right now. In the same conversion, the singer mentioned that he now wishes to “directly get married in 2026″ in an arranged marriage setup.
