Moskalik died from an explosive device which was allegedly planted next to the vehicle’s gas cylinder and detonated remotely.

A senior Russian army general was killed in a car explosion in Moscow on Friday.

The deceased army general, identified as, 59-year-old Yaroslav Moskalik, was killed on Nesterov Boulevard in Balashikha, Moscow, as per the Russian media outlets.

As per the recue teams, Moskalik died from an explosive device which was allegedly planted next to the vehicle’s gas cylinder and detonated remotely. Traces of IED striking elements were reportedly found at the scene.

The video of the incident has been shared on the social media platforms, showing the army general being flung “several metres” in the air due to the deadly suspected assassination.

The car was quickly engulfed in the flames as thick black smoke billowed into the air. One building even had its windows shattered due to the ferocity of the explosion, locals said as reported by The Sun.

The power of the explosives uncovered was the equivalent of more than 300g of TNT, Russian emergency services reported.

Moskalik was deputy chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

He also represented Russia’s General Staff in talks with Ukraine in 2015.
