A TikToker has accused Trader Joe’s of deliberately tacking on bag fees despite using her own reusable to carry out her groceries.
Callie from California believes the popular supermarket chain regularly carries out the scam in a bid to squeeze a few more pennies from customers.
In a minute-long video posted to TikTok, Callie suggests that the bag fees, which are the very final item to appear on her receipt, is a deliberate money-grabbing ploy by Trader Joe’s to sneak cash from their customers.
Callie notes how she even brought along her own reusable Trader Joe’s bags to avoid having to pay such a fee, yet two $0.10cent charges were added onto her bill regardless.

‘I thought that I was being petty and was going to talk myself out of this, but no, but I know is happening to so many friggin’ people,’ Callie began in the video which has been viewed more than 8.000 times.
‘See those bag fees? I know it’s only 10 cents but how many times a week are they charging me a bag fee?’, she asks.
‘Trader Joes I love you but… if you’re like me and leave your receipt in the bag… I don’t always look at my receipt, but what is that? And what am I gonna do about it?’
Those commenting online appeared to have sympathy with her situation.
‘If you’re bringing your own bags they should not be charging for them’, wrote one user.
‘Bags are the single highest profit item in a grocery store’, explained another commenter.

Callie said she is going to bring the matter to the attention of bosses at her store.
‘I’m gonna talk to the manager and kindly suggest it’s an auto response on the cashier and I’ll move on. Hopefully I get a gift card, but imagine how much extra they collect a day doing that?’
‘Oh hell no! I’m checking my receipt, as a matter of fact, I’m going to make sure at the register that I let them know not to charge the bag fees, cause I always bring my bags,’ exclaimed another outraged customer.
One commenter even did some calculations: ‘If someone goes around 5 times a month, that’s $12 a year… A PERSON- think of HOW MUCH MONEY THAT ADDS UP TO FOR THEM in the US per year.’
