Premier League outfit Everton FC are reportedly interested in signing Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder in the winter transfer window. The Polish midfielder has made just five appearances in all competitions under Fabian Hurzeler this season. Now, Moder is looking to pursue his ambitions elsewhere as he is understood to be ‘unhappy’ with the insufficient playtime at Goodison Park. A report from football media outlet CaughtOffside has claimed that Everton is looking to cash in on this situation and secure a successful transfer for the 25-year-old. Brighton is said to be open to the Poland international departure due to his recent injury issues.
The same report further claims that Jakub Moder wants to stay in the Premier League and isn’t looking for a move outside England. His current contract with Brighton runs until the summer of 2025. With less than six months remaining on his contract, Everton and Leicester City have been in talks to sign the player. It has also been reported that The Foxes are willing to offer Moder a two-year deal with an option to extend for one more season. The lucrative deal could attract the 25-year-old’s attention, tipping the balance in Leicester City coach Ruud van Nistelrooy’s favour.
Leicester City had previously tried to sign Moder last summer but the deal failed to materialise. Hence, a long-term interest may prove advantageous for Leicester City in the negotiations. They are currently in 19th place on the Premier League table and are in dire need of a significant boost in the squad’s firepower. Moder could prove to be that crucial addition for The Foxes but landing a deal certainly won’t be easy. The 25-year-old has also attracted foreign interest amid the ongoing speculations. Freiburg and Stuttgart are reportedly ‘waiting in the wings’ as they monitor developments around Moder at Goodison Park. If the transfer discussions continue to drag on then the Bundesliga sides could make a late-window move for the young midfielder.
