Manchester United want to keep Alejandro Garnacho but the ongoing financial turbulence may force them to change the decision.
Napoli are adamant about exceeding the market value if they bid for Alejandro Garnacho. The Manchester United star has come under the radar of several European clubs including Chelsea. Napoli have already submitted their initial offer worth €50 million which has failed to convince the Old Trafford hierarchy, as reported by ESPN. Besides Garnacho, the Italian club has kept their eyes on Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.
Napoli is looking for a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined Paris Saint Germain earlier this January. Their sporting director, Giovanni Manna, recognised Garnacho and Adeyemi as their top targets. He cleared that the club would not overpay to sign these talented youngsters.
“These are two names (Garnacho and Karim Adeyemi) that are of interest to us, they are players we like, but they are not the only ones. We are trying to evaluate a few things and looking at the opportunities, but we certainly will not pay prices outside the market value” Manna told DAZN.
“This sale unfortunately was necessary for what the player wanted and our dynamics. We will respect our parameters, not just for the transfer fee, but also for the salary. We are evaluating a few situations, it would not be right to give our fans false hope, but we will certainly do what is best to improve the squad,” he added.
Garnacho’s current contract with Manchester United will expire in 2028. The Argentine international is reportedly not part of coach Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans. It may have fuelled his interest in taking up a new challenge.
Manchester United want to keep Garnacho, but the ongoing financial turbulence may force them to change the decision. They are thought to be demanding around £70m for Garnacho. Chelsea are also keen to sign the 20-year-old winger. But in exchange, Manchester United may ask for Christopher Nkunku.
Speaking about their transfer targets, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said, “I’m happy with what we have at this moment. We pay attention to the market if something can happen. But 10 days to go, we didn’t do anything, just we called back Trev (Chalobah). We’ll see in the next 10 days if something is going to happen.”
Garnacho made his first-team debut for Manchester United in April 200, featuring in a match against Chelsea. He has made 33 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.
