WWE icon Rey Mysterio has endured a huge personal loss. The multi-time WWE World Champion has shared the news of his father Roberto Gutirrez’s death on social media.
The tragic news spread online during the November 18 episode of Monday Night RAW in Michigan. Several accounts on X (formerly Twitter) discussed the heartbreaking update when the weekly live event was underway. Rey later confirmed the news on his official Instagram account where he shared multiple photographs of his father. In his post, Rey wrote, “Roberto Gutierrez – February 29, 1948. November 17, 2024. Father: thank you for giving me the life I have.”
Several wrestling stars have reacted to the tragic news in the post’s comments section. CM Punk simply replied with a heart emoji.
WWE legend Chris Jericho wrote, “Sorry to hear that weeeto. He raised an incredible son.”
Ex-World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest also replied with folded hands and heart emojis.
WWE diva Zelina Vega wrote, “Incredible man raised an incredible son. So, sorry for your loss. Sending you and the family love, today and always. RIP.”
WWE Hall of Famer Lita commented, “What a beautiful tribute – thinking of you and your family this time. What a legacy he leaves behind.”

In his post, Mysterio further talked about how his father Gutirrez was a true example for him.
“You did more than set the example of how to love and maintain a strong marriage and father 4 boys, you were the example and passed every single time until your death with flying colors,” he added.
In his heartfelt post, the multi-time champion also revealed how his father was worried about leaving behind Rey’s mother. The WWE star assured that he would step up and take good care of his mother in his father’s absence.
“You fought until the very last minute and know that your biggest fear was leaving Moms behind, but I can assure you that she will not be alone and we will always look out for her,” Rey concluded.
Rey featured in the latest RAW episode at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids. He competed in a Mixed Tag Team match alongside Zelina Vega. The duo squared off against a team of Chad Gable and Ivy Nile. Rey secured a victory for his team with a Slingshot Splash on Gable.
