The president-elect spoke repeatedly about his wife in the interview, noting his MAGA faithful adore Melania.
‘They really love her. Actually, in many ways, when I make speeches, we love our First Lady. they have signs, we love our First Lady. No, she’ll be–she’ll be active, when she needs to be, when she needs to be,’ he added.
In his first term, Melania moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with their young son Barron. After Trump won the 2020 election, Melania waited to join him until Barron finished out his school year. The youngster then transferred to a Washington D.C. school.
She spent much of her time as first lady focused on raising their son.
Melania joined her husband at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday morning where he rang the opening bell in honor of being named Time’s Person of the Year.
She has rung the bell before. When she was first lady she did so as part of the promotion of her Be Best campaign.
Trump acknowledged his wife beat him to be first to that particular honor, noting that she was ‘very popular’ as first lady.
‘She rang in the bell,’ he said.
She then joined him on the stock floor as he shook hands with traders afterward. The couple also posed for a selfie with New York Stock Exchange Chairman Jeff Sprecher.
Donald and Melania Trump at the White House in May 2020
Melania Trump told Fox News last month that she is busy preparing for the move to Washington D.C.
She pointed out she lived in the White House for four years and knows it well.
‘This time it’s very different because we already know where we are going and we have all of the plans from before. So we don’t need to go back in,’ she told Fox & Friends.
‘My team is in contact with the White House, so that’s a plus. But we have all what we need, so this is the second time so it’s nothing new. The first time was challenging. We didn’t have much access, we were in on January 20th. But this time it’s already in the process,’ she added.
Melania said she is busy packing her things, setting up her office and interviewing staff.
‘I know what you need to establish,’ she said. ‘You know what kind of people you need to hire to be in your office. So that’s what I’m doing now. I’m interviewing people for my office. I’m establishing everything what is needed so we could start on day one, everybody’s in and we start working.’
Melania indicated to Fox & Friends she plans to bring back her Be Best initiative. She also talked about her collectibles, such as NFT and Christmas ornaments, that she sells online.
