Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, better known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again or NBA YoungBoy, was pardoned by US President Donald Trump after his conviction in Utah.

The rapper took to Instagram on Wednesday and announced that he had been pardoned by President Trump.

He was one of the nine people granted clemency. The list also included former Republican Congressman Michael Grimm and real estate TV personalities Todd and Julie Chrisley.

“I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the chance to keep growing—as a man, a father, and an artist. This moment means a lot to me. It represents the future I’ve worked hard for, and I’m ready to move forward,” YoungBoy wrote on Instagram.

He also thanked those who supported him and “believed” in him.

“Special thanks to the Pardon Czar, Ms. Alice Marie Johnson, for her nonstop efforts to give people second chances, and to my lawyer, Brittany K. Barnett, for always being there and working hard to make this happen. And thank you to everyone who believed in me,” he said.

Why Was NBA YoungBoy Pardoned?

NBA YoungBoy was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison on December 10, 2024, after pleading guilty to having firearms as a convicted felon. The charges were linked to a 2020 arrest in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The sentence was given by US District Judge David Barlow in Utah and also included five years of supervised probation and a $200,000 fine. Since the rapper had already been in custody since April 2024, he served about 11 months before being released from FCI Talladega in Alabama on March 24, 2025.

At the time, YoungBoy was already under house arrest in Utah while waiting for a separate trial. In November 2024, he accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to 10 of the charges and not contesting the rest.

As part of the agreement, he was sentenced to 23 months in prison and five years of probation. It was first reported that he would be released on July 27, 2025, but that date was moved up to April 26. He was officially released from FCI Talladega in Alabama on March 24, 2025.
