US President Donald Trump clarified that he is not seeking regime change in Iran, despite a recent social media post suggesting otherwise. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Donald Trump said his focus is on regional stability rather than political upheaval in Tehran.

“No, if there was, there was, but no I don’t want it. I’d like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible,” Donald Trump said when asked about his Truth Social post in which he floated the idea of toppling Iran’s leadership.

“Regime change takes chaos, and ideally we don’t want to see so much chaos,” he added. Praising Iran’s potential, Donald Trump said, “The Iranians are very good traders, very good business people, and they’ve got a lot of oil. They should be fine. They should be able to rebuild and do a good job. They’re never going to have nuclear, but other than that, they should do a great job.”

His comments come just days after ordering US strikes on three major Iranian nuclear sites, in support of Israel. In a Truth Social post at the time, Donald Trump wrote, “It’s not politically correct to use the term ‘Regime Change,’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”

Iran Says It Is Not Building Nukes

In response to Western concerns, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated that Tehran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. He said Iran “has never sought to acquire nuclear weapons and does not seek them,” while asserting the country’s right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy.

“We do not want conflict, but we will not retreat from our legitimate rights,” Masoud Pezeshkian said, adding that Tehran remains open to resolving tensions at the negotiating table.
