Arsenal and Atletico Madrid secured a spot in the Champions League round of 16 as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain got seeded spot in the playo-offs.

Girona Vs Arsenal

Arsenal rallied from a goal down to win 2-1 at Girona on Wednesday thanks to goals from Jorginho and Ethan Nwaneri. The north London side picked up their sixth win in eight games to finish third in the league phase with 19 points and avoid a two-legged playoff in the next round.

Arsenal looked dominant from the outset but it was the hosts who opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Arnaut Danjuma capitalised on a poor run by goalkeeper Neto to strike into the far corner.

Jorginho equalised with a clinical spot kick 10 minutes later following an Arnau Martinez foul on Thomas Partey before Nwaneri put the visitors ahead with a superb curling effort from the edge of the box in the 42nd minute.

Girona pushed for an equaliser late in the game and Cristhian Stuani thought he had pulled the score level but saw his 76th-minute strike disallowed for offside.

Raheem Sterling squandered a golden chance to add a third goal for Arsenal in stoppage time when he saw his penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Pau Lopez after a clear handball by Alejandro Frances.

RB Salzburg Vs Atletico

Atletico Madrid booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a top-eight finish and automatic qualification after a decisive 4-0 win over RB Salzburg on Wednesday including a double from Antoine Griezmann.

The win left Atletico fifth in the standings, with their opponents in the next round to be determined after the playoffs.

Salzburg, 34th and third from bottom, exit the competition with just three points from eight games.

Giuliano Simeone, son of coach Diego Simeone, got Atletico off to a dream start, opening the scoring with a right-footed shot inside the first five minutes, assisted by Julian Alvarez.

The 22-year-old winger was again instrumental eight minutes later, sending in a brilliant cross that Griezmann converted.

Griezmann struck again on the stroke of half-time, finishing off a Samuel Lino counter-attack.

Marcos Llorente rounded off the scoring on 63 minutes with a right-footed shot into the bottom left-hand corner after a quick break by Rodrigo de Paul. The hosts grabbed a consolation goal in the 91st minute through Adam Daghim.

VFB Stuttgart Vs PSG

Ousmane Dembele scored a hat-trick as Paris Saint-Germain romped to a 4-1 win at Stuttgart on Wednesday and qualified for the Champions League knockout stages.

PSG were at risk of elimination after a disappointing group stage, with three losses and a draw, but were utterly dominant against an outclassed Stuttgart side as they confirmed their place in the play-off round.

Bayern Vs Slovan Bratislava

Bayern Munich eased past Slovan Bratislava 3-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday but the Germans missed out on a top-eight finish and automatic qualification and will go into a playoff for a spot in the Round of 16.
