A day after launching United States-made long-range missiles, Ukraine fired British “Storm Shadow” missiles to strike military targets deep inside Russian territory, escalating the conflict that has already lasted 1,000 days.
The development comes after Russia’s recent deployment of North Korean troops to push its war effort against Ukraine, according to reports.
The missile strikes targeted military structures in Russia’s Kursk region, while others were intercepted over the Black Sea port city of Yeysk, according to reports from Russian channels linked to the military.
The residents claimed that they heard the sound of missiles striking the Kursk region which lies on Ukraine’s border. They heard at least 14 huge explosions and witnessed black smoke rising in the distance, according to reports from local media.

Ukraine Fires US-Made Missile
Ukraine on Tuesday used US-supplied long-range missiles to strike targets in the Russian territory. Just days before the reported strikes, US President Joe Biden reportedly approved Ukraine’s use of Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to target military positions in the Russian territory.
It was later revealed that the US permitted Ukraine to target Russian military positions using their missiles only in and around the Kursk region, according to reports.
In what could be seen as another US policy shift, Biden on Wednesday allowed the use of antipersonnel landmines in Ukraine and also announced a $275m military aid package for the war-hit country.
It comes as Russia’s war in Ukraine crossed 1,000 days and currently remains at a volatile juncture with increased military strikes and geopolitical situation. There are growing speculation about the future aid to Ukraine as the US president-elect Donald Trump will replace Biden at the White House in January.
