Ukraine released full video footage of a drone attack that it claims destroyed or severely damaged 41 Russian military aircraft across four key air bases- marking one of Kyiv’s most audacious operations since the start of the war in 2022.

The mission, codenamed Operation Spider’s Web, took over 18 months to plan and execute, Ukraine said. It involved launching first-person-view (FPV) drones from deep inside Russian territory, using specially modified trucks with hidden compartments. The operation, which reached as far as Siberia, was hailed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “a brilliant operation for the history books.”

Targets Included Russia’s Strategic Bombers

According to Ukrainian officials, the strikes hit Belaya air base in Siberia, nearly 4,000 km from Ukraine, as well as airfields in Murmansk, Ivanovo, and Ryazan. The drones- controlled via fibre-optic cables- were not launched from Ukrainian soil but from locations near the Russian airfields.

The SBU said in a statement that the aircraft struck included the A-50, the Tu-95 strategic bomber, the Tu-22M3 supersonic jet bomber, the Tu-160 strategic bomber, as well as the An-12 and Il-78 military cargo planes.

“A significant part of them is irretrievably destroyed, and some damaged aircraft will take many years to rebuild,” the SBU said.

What Russia Said On Ukrainian Drone Attack

Russian defence ministry acknowledged the attacks, confirming fires and damage to aircraft but claimed the situation was under control. Earlier, US President Donald Trump said he held a lengthy phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the Ukrainian drone strike.

Donald Trump said the two leaders discussed the recent drone attacks on Russian airfields, along with “various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides.”

Describing the call as “a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace”, Donald Trump said that Vladimir Putin “very strongly” indicated Russia would retaliate for the drone attack by Ukraine.
