Union Cabinet Greenlights Major Metro Projects In Bengaluru, Thane And Pune

The third phase of Bengaluru Metro will be completed for Rs 15,611 crore.

The Prime Minister also informed the people that in Bengaluru, the government has approved two new corridors with 30 more stations.

On August 16, the Union Cabinet approved metro rail projects in Bengaluru in Karnataka and Thane and Pune in Maharashtra. It also approved the five infrastructure projects to improve air connectivity in West Bengal. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the government has approved infrastructure projects worth about Rs 2 lakh crore since taking charge in June. As per the minister, the government’s priority is to boost employment generation and economic development. Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra later this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also tweeted about these projects in Marathi. According to the Prime Minister, the government is constantly striving to provide modern infrastructure to Maharashtra. He added, “Today, the Union Cabinet has approved the Thane Integral Ring Metro Rail Project.” The PM further wrote that it is an important infrastructural project connecting major areas in and around Thane, adding comfort and convenience.

The Prime Minister also informed the people that in Bengaluru, the government has approved two new corridors with 30 more stations. The PM’s post read, “It enhances the passenger experience and promotes ‘easy living’.” The third phase of Bengaluru Metro will be completed for Rs 15,611 crore. It includes two corridors, JP Nagar to Hebbal Kempapura and Hosahalli-Kadabagere.

For Bihar and West Bengal, the government has aimed for increased air connectivity, which will foster the big news for tourism and commercial development. The Union Cabinet today approved the creation of new civilian enclaves at Bagdogra in West Bengal and Bihata Airport in Bihar. As per the post, “This will ensure seamless travel to and from these two locations.”

Besides these arrangements, the Union government has approved the Swargate to Katraj underground extension of the existing PCMC-Swargate metro line in Pune. According to the PIB release, the Cabinet, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, has approved the corridor. The release added that this new extension will be known as the Line-l B extension and will span 5.46 km. It will also include three underground stations, connecting key areas such as Market Yard, Bibwewadi, Balaji Nagar and Katraj suburbs.
