The third batch of Indian deportees is expected to land at Amritsar airport in Punjab on Sunday as the Donald Trump administration continues its crackdown on illegal immigration.

A total of 157 deportees, out of which, a maximum are from Haryana, would be in the US military flight which is set to arrive in India, PTI reported citing sources.

The arrival of the third batch of devotees comes a day after 119 Indians were returned from the US on a military plane on Saturday evening.

Officials reported that of the 119 deportees, 67 were from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, and the rest included eight from Gujarat, three from Uttar Pradesh, two each from Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, two men among the deportees—Sandeep and Pradeep, who are cousins—were arrested by Punjab police at the airport.

They were wanted in connection with a murder case in Patiala, Punjab. Both men, from Rajpura town, had been declared proclaimed offenders in the case, claimed the police.

The first group of Indian deportees from the US, consisting of 104 people, arrived in India on a military plane on February 5.

Subsequent flights carrying Indian illegal immigrants from the US have been arriving at Amritsar airport, and the new batch of deportees will also land there.

However, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has voiced concerns about using Amritsar airport for this purpose.

“Do not make our holy city (Amritsar) a deport centre…Amritsar is known for the Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir, Ram Tirath temple, Jallianwala Bagh and Gobindgarh Fort. Will they allow landing (of deportation flights) at Vatican City, if they (deportees) hail from there?” Mann said.
