Vaibhav Suryavashi is playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, and on Monday (April 28), during his team’s 10th league match against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the 14-year-old cricketer entered his name in the history books by becoming the youngest batter in the world to score a half-century in the men’s T20 cricket as well as IPL.
He crossed the 50-run mark with a four on the last ball of the fifth over bowled by Washington Sundar. He needed only 17 balls to score his maiden IPL fifty and has so far hammered three fours and six sixes.
By scoring his first IPL fifty at the age of 14 years and 32 days, Vaibhav broke Riyan Parag’s record, who scored a half-century for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL at the age of 17 years and 175 days. Sanju Samson is third on the list (18 years, 159 days).
The overall record of being the youngest batter in T20 cricket to score half-century before Suryavanshi was in name of Aghanistan cricketer Hassan Eisakhil.
Eisakhil, who is the son of legendary Afghanistan all-rounder and former captain Mohammad Nabi, was 15 years and 360 days old when he scored his maiden fifty in 2022.
The 17-ball fifty on Monday helped Suryavanshi score the fastest fifty of IPL 2025, the second-fastest fifty for RR in the IPL (after the 13-ball fifty by Yashasvi Jaiswal vs KKR in 2023) and the fastest fifty in the IPL against the Ahmedabad-based franchise.
Suryavanshi, who was signed for Rs 1.10 crore by RR in the IPL 2025 mega auction, made his IPL debut for the inaugural edition winners on April 19 against Lucknow Super Giants at Sawai Mansingh Stadium and opened his campaign with a first-ball six off Shardul Thakur’s bowling. In that match, he scored 34 runs from 20 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes but was not able to help his side win the match.
In the next match against RCB at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 24, Vaibhav scored 16 runs from 12 balls with the help of two maximums.
