In today’s rapidly moving world, individuals are increasingly seeking mental tranquillity. We aspire to live in a serene manner along the spiritual path without the chaos of daily life. This desire drives many to create a temple in their homes or to choose residences near temples or sacred sites. The belief is that residing close to a temple fosters an environment of spirituality and devotion, leading to a clearer mind. That it not only enhances spiritual growth but also helps individuals maintain religious practices.
However, did you know that, as per Vastu Shastra, having a temple within a home or in close proximity, can lead to Vastu Dosh. But living near a temple itself is deemed to be favourable. At the same time, it is believed to be unfavourable when the shadow of a temple or another large structure is cast over the house in the morning. It can also be unfavorable as the home does not receive positive sunlight energy during the morning hours. When the shadow of a tree, large building, or mountain falls on a house, along with the temple, for more than six hours, this situation is termed Chhaya Vedh in Vastu Shastra.
Here’s what Vastu Shastra says about the location of one’s home near a temple:
- If a residence is located even 750 meters from a Lord Shiva temple, it may lead to troubles.
- Having a home within a 30-foot radius of a Lord Vishnu temple can result in adverse effects.
- Residences situated up to 180 meters from a Devi Mata Temple frequently experience health issues.
- If a house is not at least 120 meters away from a Hanuman Temple, Vastu Dosh can occur.
- According to the principles of Samarangan Vastu Shastra, the presence of a Shiva Temple up to 300 km in any direction from the house is considered inauspicious. The influence of a Devi Mata temple directly opposite the house is also seen as negative. Furthermore, if there is a Lord Vishnu temple or one of his incarnations behind the house, it is regarded as a significant Vastu problem.
Vastu Remedies
Placing an idol or image of Lord Shri Ganesha in the direction of the Shiva temple from your residence can remedy the Vastu defect.
If a Shiva temple is directly in front of a house, it is recommended to bury a pair of copper snakes beneath the main entrance. In cases where a Bhairavnath temple is nearby, it is advised to feed a crow with bread placed at the front door daily.
If there is a Devi Mata temple in the vicinity, installing a symbol of her weapon at the main door will help mitigate the Vastu defects.
