Vinicius Junior and Real Madrid recently held discussions over a potential contract renewal. According to a report by The Athletic, the Brazilian star and his representatives rejected the offer. Vinicius’ current contract, signed in 2022 and officially announced in 2023, is set to run until 2027.

As per SPORT, citing transfer market expert Sacha Tavolieri, Vinicius’ camp reportedly reached out to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to explore a possible move. Additionally, The Athletic claimed that during the summer transfer window, the forward was linked with a move abroad, with his representatives even holding talks regarding a potential transfer to the Saudi Pro League (SPL).

Despite ongoing speculation about his future, Vinicius recently spoke about his commitment to Real Madrid. In an interview with Real Madrid TV, as quoted by ESPN, he expressed his desire to continue with the club. “It’s very important for me to reach 100 goals and be a part of this club’s history. At 24 years old, and after seven seasons, making history is something very significant for me and my entire family. Let’s hope I can carry on here for many more years,” he said.

Vinicius Junior has so far scored 17 goals across all competitions for Real Madrid this season. Carlo Ancelotti’s men currently claim the top spot in the La Liga standings. Having played 23 matches so far in the La Liga, Real Madrid has collected 50 points.

In their last appearance, Real Madrid got the better of Manchester City by three goals to two in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie on Tuesday. Jude Bellingham earned a stoppage-time winner as Real Madrid came twice from behind to beat the Premier League giants.

Manchester City led on two occasions through goals scored by Erling Haaland. The Norwegian netted the second goal of the night from the penalty spot, but the 15-time European champions equalised both times thanks to strikes from Kylian Mbappe and Brahim Diaz.

Real Madrid and Manchester City could not reach automatically the last 16 of the Champions League as one of the top eight sides in the standings. The two sides are facing each other for a fourth consecutive year, having previously met in four Champions League knockout ties since 2020.
