After announcing his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, 36-year-old Virat Kohli visited Premanand Maharaj’s ashram on Tuesday morning. Kohli, who had stepped away from T20 Internationals last year, played 123 Test matches for India, amassing 9,230 runs at an average of 46, including 30 centuries.
In an Instagram post, Kohli expressed his mixed emotions about retiring, stating, “It is not easy when I am going away from this format of the game. But it feels right. I have given it my all and it has given me more than my expectations.” He conveyed his gratitude to the game, his teammates and his fans.
Kohli’s retirement follows a series of senior Indian players stepping away from Test cricket, with Ravichandran Ashwin retiring in December and Rohit Sharma making his exit just last week.
Kohli, renowned for his youthful energy and aggression, has given India countless memorable moments in Test cricket. Under his captaincy, India won 40 of 68 Tests, lost 17, and drew 11, highlighting the unique impact of his leadership compared to previous Indian teams. Throughout his career, Kohli remained a steadfast advocate for Test cricket, showcasing an unwavering commitment to hard work and excellence.
