The fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and Australia got underway at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday, December 26, and during the first session of the first day’s play, star Indian batter and former captain Virat Kohli was seen getting involved in a heated exchange with young Australian opening batter Sam Konstas, who is making his Test debut in Melbourne.
In a video going viral on the internet, Kohli and Konstas can be seen bumping into each other and then exchanging a few words.
19-year-old Konstas, who replaced Nathan McSweeney in Australia’s playing XI for the ongoing match as an opener, completed his maiden Test fifty in just 51 balls. During his maiden Test inning, he faced a total of 65 balls and, with the help of six fours and two sixes, scored 60 runs. He added 89 runs in 19.2 overs for the first wicket with Usman Khawaja.
The right-handed batter was sent back to the pavilion by Ravindra Jadeja, who trapped him in front of the wickets. Before returning back, Konstas impressed everyone with his attacking batting. He took Indian speedster and world No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah to the cleaners and smashed his for a six even.
Bumrah, who has accounted for the dismissal of 21 batters in three matches played so far in the series, conceded 38 runs in his quota of six overs in the first spell and looked completely off colour.
1 change for India
For the ongoing Test in Melbourne, India has made one change to the playing XI. In place of No. 3 batter Shubman Gill, all-rounder Washington Sundar is playing in Melbourne. Sundar last played for the Indian team in the Perth Test, which the visitors won by 295 runs inside four days.
On the other hand, Aussies have made two changes. Apart from Konstas, Scott Boland is playing for the Baggy Greens in the Boxing Day Test in place of Josh Hazlewood, who is ruled out of the series due to injury.
