A Chance to Go Back to School
According to a report by the South China Morning Post, a Japanese company named Undokaiya has launched a programme for tourists called ‘Your High School’. Under this initiative, visitors to Japan can experience a day in a Japanese secondary school.
The programme is conducted entirely in English and includes activities that mirror those seen in Japanese TV series. Participants are provided with school uniforms, take part in club activities, and are introduced to Japan’s unique school culture.
Cost of Becoming A ‘Student’
For a fee of 30,000 yen (approximately 17,000 rupees), you can become a student for a day. Participants are assigned to a class of up to 30 students. They can choose between wearing a classic school uniform or a suit. A teacher conducts classes, including lessons in calligraphy, disaster drills, emergency skills, and traditional Japanese dances. After lunch, participants engage in sports and other activities.
To make the experience more realistic, mischievous “students” are added to the mix, creating the kind of light-hearted trouble often seen in schools. At the end of the day, participants are required to clean the classroom, which is an integral part of the Japanese education system.
