Jasprit Bumrah delivered a hilarious one-liner when a journalist called him a medium pace all-rounder. The pace spearhead is now set to lead the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence for the first Test against Australia in Perth at the Optus Stadium on Thursday.
During the pre-match press conference, a journalist posed a fairly interesting question where he asked what it felt like to be a medium-pace all-rounder and also as a captain.
Bumrah positively took the question and responded with a rather sarcastic and witty response during the media event.
“Medium pace? I’ve bowled 150 kph. You can call me a fast bowler but I saying that I don’t see myself as a fast bowling captain,” Bumrah responded during the pre-match press conference in Perth.
While leading the national side is a massive responsibility for any player, Bumrah focuses on the simple things. Give his absolute best when playing for the country and also help the nation bring cricket forward.
“I am an Indian player and it is my job to give my best for India and take Indian cricket forward and that is the aspect through which I see cricket,” he said.
Bumrah will have to shoulder the burden of leadership in Rohit’s absence as India takes on Australia for the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, a five-match affair that takes place in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney where both teams will go toe-to-toe to bring out a contest between two of the best teams in the world.
India has had the better record of late with the side having defended the title for the past 10 years. Australia on the other hand will look to redeem themselves after suffering two home series losses against the Indian unit.
The Indian side will also have the World Test Championship (WTC) for the 2023-25 cycle on the back of their mind with the side needing to win four games and also draw one out of the remaining five Tests of their season to ensure they can secure a spot in the finals for a third-consecutive season.
India may have setbacks with big-name stars missing out but history shows that the Indian unit, including the youngsters are willing to take up the responsibility and do what is needed to get the win.
