Deandra Dottin was roped in by the Gujarat Giants for Rs 1.70 crore.
West Indies’ Deandra Dottin became the first player to be signed at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 mini-auction, held in Bengaluru on Sunday. Dottin was roped in by the Gujarat Giants for Rs 1.70 crore.
Dottin was one of the three players registered under the Rs 50 lakh price category. Dottin was previously signed for Rs 60 lakh by Gujarat Giants ahead of the inaugural WPL season. But she was released by the franchise before the first edition kicked off in 2023.
The social media handle of West Indies Cricket recently shared a video of Dottin witnessing the moment when she was officially signed by the Gujarat Giants at the auction.
Following Dottin’s acquisition, she was seen being congratulated by the members of the West Indies team management.
“West Indies’ Deandra Dottin was the 1st player to be sold in the WPL 2025 auction! The 33-year-old goes to the Gujarat Giants for INR 1.7 crore & remember, she is the first woman in history to score a T20I century,” read the post shared by the West Indies cricket on X (formerly Twitter).

Deandra Dottin, featuring in 123 T20 Internationals, is expected to bolster the top order of the Gujarat Giants with her explosive batting. Dottin’s wicket-taking prowess is also expected to help the Gujarat-based franchise.
Deandra Dottin became the first woman to score a century in the T20Is. She had breached the three-figure mark in T20I cricket against South Africa at the T20 World Cup held in 2010. She had scored a 38-ball hundred in that match. It is still the fastest T20I ton hit by a woman.
Talking about the WPL auction, Gujarat Giants head coach Michael Klinger said, “We are pleased to get the players we wanted. Our priority was to pick players who had a genuine chance of making it to the playing eleven. We are excited to have Deidra back, especially because of her power with the bat and skill with the ball.”
“Simran Shaikh is yet another valuable addition to the team. She brings a lot of power with her and has a rapid strike rate. There are only a handful of players who can do that in women’s cricket. I think she will create a lot of healthy competition within the Indian batters for a place in the team which is what you want in a squad,” Michael Klinger added.
Apart from Deandra Dottin, Gujarat Giants also acquired the services of Simran Shaikh for Rs 1.90 crore. The uncapped Indian became the most expensive signing of the WPL 2025 mini-auction. England all-rounder Danielle Gibson was signed by Gujarat Giants for Rs 30 lakh.
