Karachi Kings began their campaign at the Pakistan Super League 2025 on a winning note as they defeated Multan Sultans by four wickets in a high-scoring affair. At the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, the Mohammad Rizwan-led Kings posted 234/3 but Sultans chased down the target in 19.2 overs.
For Kings, captain Rizwan scored a brilliant century – 105 off 63 with the help of nine fours and five sixes. However, his effort went in vain as Sultans batter James Vince’s 43-ball 101 helped them to victory.
For his match-winning innings, Vince was declared player-of-the-match.
Later on, he was handed over another award – a hair dryer – for being the most reliable player of the contest.
Kings had been reduced to 79/4 when Vince and Khushdil Shah got together to revive the chase. The pair added 142 runs for the fifth wicket to lift their team to 221/4 before being separated.
Vince praised Khushdil Shah for a blistering 37-ball 60.
“Quite a tough chase, but when we batted, we realised how nice a surface this was. Luckily, whenever we needed a boundary, we found it. The way Khushdil batted was also great,” Vince said.
“When the rate gets beyond 15-16, the game gets away from you at any game. So the way Khushdil attacked CJ when the rate was climbing was amazing. I did the hard work so would have been nice to stay till the end, but we bat quite deep and that helps in chases like this,” he added.
Kings are currently third on the PSL 2025 points table with two points after one game while Sultans are fifth having started their season with a defeat. Led by David Warner, Kings will next face Lahore Qalandars on Tuesday while Sultans next lock horns with Islamabad United on Wednesday.
