In surprising scenes, Bangladesh cricketer Jaker Ali walked off the field after assuming he was run out but replays showed otherwise.
Bangladesh batter Jaker Ali was called back from the dressing room soon after being run out during the third T20I against West Indies. The surprising turn of events transpired during the 15th over of Bangladesh’s innings when Jaker and Shamim Hossain were involved in a big mix-up while attempting a run.
On the third ball of the over, Ali played a shot towards square leg and after completing a single, he turned back for a second before Hossain sent him back. Ali was stranded in the middle of the pitch and did attempt to make his ground at the striker’s end up thought he was late.
As a result, a livid Ali began his long walk to the dressing room. Later, replays suggested that it was Ali who had managed to put his bat first inside the popping crease with Hossain’s willow hanging in the air.
It offered a golden lifeline to Ali but resulted in an unfortunate dismissal for Hossain.
Ali made full use of the chance and went on to score a terrific half-century. He remained unbeaten on 72 off 41 balls. His blistering knock comprised three fours and six sixes.
Earlier, Bangladesh opening batter Parvez Hossain Emon produced a solid innings of 39 off 21 balls. Riding on Emon and Ali’s power-packed batting, Bangladesh posted an impressive total of 189 for the loss of seven wickets. Romario Shepherd bagged two wickets while Alzarri Joseph, Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie claimed one scalp each for West Indies.
West Indies were then skittled for 109 in their chase. Rishad Hossain picked up three wickets as Bangladesh stormed to 80-run win to complete a 3-0 series sweep.
