Jose Mourinho went crazy as his team Fenerbahce notched a last-gasp win in the Turkish Super Lig clash against Trabzonspor on Sunday, November 3. The Portuguese manager unleashed his iconic knee-slide celebration after Sofyan Amrabat struck the winner late in the second-half stoppage time to inspire a 3-2 victory. Once the final whistle was blown, Mourinho broke into an emphatic celebration at Papara Park. He came running onto the pitch and went on to perform his signature knee-slide. The 61-year-old, however, failed to execute it and ended up collapsing onto the ground.
Mourinho didn’t have any time to get back on his feet. He was almost mobbed by the Fenerbahce players and the other members of the coaching unit, who were visibly elated after securing three points from the away fixture. The club boss shared a tight hug with goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, who also deserved much credit for the narrow victory.
Once the on-field actions were wrapped up, Mourinho addressed the media and expressed his discontent about poor refereeing. Atilla Karaoglan, who officiated the match, was in the line of fire for several contentious decisions.
Shedding light on those incidents, Mourinho said at the post-match presser, “The man of the match was Atilla Karaoglan. The invisible man. The referee on the field is just a child. We don’t want to see him in our matches again. We don’t want him as a VAR either. We don’t want him on the field either.”
“Before I came here, I was told a lot of things and I didn’t believe it. It was even worse. We faced a good team and they fought well, but we are playing against the system,” the Special One added (via Sun Sport).
Former Manchester United man Fred broke the deadlock for Fenerbahce moments before the first-half whistle. Simon Banza converted back-to-back penalties to put Trabzohnspor ahead in the second half. Eden Dzeko then scored the equaliser for Fenerbahce.
In the 102nd minute, Sofyan Amrabat pulled off a brilliant run into the opposition box and slotted the ball home with a close-range finish from 12 yards. After the away win, Fenerbahce remains five points behind Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.
